Peruvian students win awards at Harvard University event

11:04 | Lima, Jan. 22.

The IRMUN Society USIL team —a club founded by International Relations Faculty students of Peru's San Ignacio de Loyola University Law School— won three awards at a recent event organized by the United States' Harvard International Relations Council.

During the meeting, participants simulated —in Spanish and English— the negotiations carried out at the UN Committees.

The event took place in Puebla (Mexico), where university students and schoolchildren from different educational entities around the world participated.

Likewise, USIL won the Best Small Delegation award due to its effective knowledge deployment, debate, as well as arguments about economic, political, cultural, and social issues affecting different societies worldwide.

It should be noted this is the second time that USIL's IRMUN Society has won this award.

Also, they won this recognition at the Harvard National Model United Nations-Latin America (HNMUN-LA) held at the USIL campus in Lima in 2019.

The USIL team was made up of five students: Diego Ninanya, Arantza Renteria, Santiago Wong, Maria Caballero, Gabriel Bejares, and graduate Jose Ludeña.

It is worth to mention that they took on roles as delegates using different tools learned at the faculty.

In addition, Maria Caballero and Diego Ninanya received the Honorable Mention in the SOCHUM Committee in HNMUN-LA 2020, while Santiago Wong received the Best Delegate distinction for his brilliant participation in the committee of General Assembly-Emergency Special Sessions 1979.

International Relations

USIL is the first Peruvian university to offer an International Relations degree. It trains professionals in the principles of politics and international economics.

Students in this program are able to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams to formulate and develop strategies that contribute to ethics and social responsibility, thus generating a positive change in the global environment.
