Peruvian students attend Intel ISEF fair in U.S.

13:31 | Phoenix (U.S.), May. 13.

A delegation of students headed to the United States this past weekend to represent Peru at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) —the most important science fair in the world, with 78 countries attending.

According to Peru's State-run National Council for Science and Technological Innovation (Concytec), the delegation comprises the first and second place winning teams in all four categories at Eureka 2018.

Eureka is a school science fair —held by Concytec and the Ministry of Education— that encourages scientific vocation in elementary and high school students across Peru.

In total, 16 students, 8 teachers, and 1 Concytec professional specialist traveled on Saturday. They will be competing in the following categories: environmental sciences, technology and engineering, basic sciences, and social sciences.

Intel ISEF takes place in Phoenix, Arizona in the United States from May 13 to 17.

Concytec has participated since 2010, and this will be the largest Peruvian delegation to attend the event, with methodologically valid projects aimed at solving local problems.

Unlike previous years —when only first place winning teams were invited to attend the fair— second place finishers will also move on to the international competition starting this year.

It must be noted each team is comprised of two students and one teacher.
