Peruvian Soccer Federation President could serve two preventive detentions

17:21 | Lima, Dec. 10.

The prosecutor in charge of the investigation —on Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) President Edwin Oviedo's alleged participation in a criminal organization known as the Port's White Collars— will request a 36-month preventive detention against the former chairman, Prosecutor Jorge Chavez informed Monday.

According to him —the coordinator of special prosecutions against organized crime— there is enough evidence supporting the request of Prosecutor Rocio Sanchez.

Chavez went on to add the former FPF president could serve two preventive detentions since they are independent from one another.

"A person can serve two preventive detentions since these are two different cases and must be served independently," Chavez expressed.

Likewise, the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) will decide at which penitentiary center Oviedo will be confined.

In this sense, if the judge approves Prosecutor Sanchez's request, INPE will be in charge of deciding whether Oviedo serves preventive detention in Lima or Chiclayo (Lambayeque region).

Edwin Oviedo is under investigation for allegedly being the leader of Los Wachiturros de Tuman criminal organization and ordering the assassination of two Tuman sugar factory union leaders. The company was under control of the entrepreneur.

Previously, the judiciary ordered preliminary detention for Oviedo on Thursday for his alleged participation in a criminal organization known as the Port's White Collars.

Within this framework, Oviedo is being investigated for alleged influence peddling, following the release of phone conversations and testimonies of cooperating witnesses, who affirm he used to give monthly sums of money to dismissed Supreme Judge Cesar Hinostroza in exchange for judicial favors.
