National production increased 3.44% in June 2022, as a result of the positive evolution of most economic sectors —with the exception of farming, telecommunications, and finance— the
National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported on Monday.
In its National Production technical report, INEI revealed that national production grew 3.54% between January and June this year.
Meanwhile, the statistical entity indicated that economic activity grew 5.51% in the annual period from July 2021 to June 2022.
Fishing
In the month of analysis, the production of the fishing sector grew 15.7%, after six months of consecutive contraction, due to the higher extraction of species of maritime origin (+20.33%), mainly of anchoveta for indirect human consumption (meal and fish oil), thus registering an extraction of 929,291 tons.
Farming
In June 2022, the farming sector contracted 1.64%, due to lower production in agriculture (-2.88%), which was explained by unfavorable weather conditions; maximum temperatures below normal, mainly on the coast, which affected the normal growth and development of crops; while, in the highlands and jungle of the country, maximum temperatures prevailed within the normal range.
Mining and Hydrocarbons
After three months of negative results, the sector grew 2.99% compared to June 2021, due to the positive performance of the metal mining activity (1.14%), supported by higher production volumes of molybdenum (+9.5%), copper (+8%), iron (+3.8%), and tin (+2.3%), and attenuated by a decrease in the production of zinc (-21.5%), silver (-9.1%), gold (-4.1%), and lead (-2%).
Manufacturing
According to the report issued by the Ministry of Production, in June this year, the manufacturing sector increased 5.9%, led by increased activity in both the non-primary subsector (+4.16%) and the primary subsector (+9.82%).
Energy sector
In the month of analysis, the electricity, gas and water sector rose 3.05% due to higher production of electricity (+2.95%), gas distribution (+1.24%), and water (+4.11%) subsectors.
Construction
On the other hand, the construction sector increased 6.02% mainly due to greater physical progress of public works (+21.41%) and domestic cement consumption, to a lesser extent (+2.27%).
Trade
The trade sector rose 2.47% in June as a result of the good performance of the vehicle sales and repair (+5.70%), wholesale (+2.65%), and retail sale (+0.92%) subsectors.
Telecommunications and Other Information Services
INEI reported that the telecommunications and other information services sector declined 2.84%, due to the decrease in the telecommunications (-3.13%) and other information services (-0.55%) subsectors.
Financial and Insurance sector
The financial and insurance sector saw a reduction of 7.83%, mainly due to a decrease in loans (-2.81%) and deposits (-10.12%) from commercial banks.
