The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Wednesday stressed that the general elections held on April 11 were clean as he had promised at the beginning of the Transition and Emergency Government's term in office in November 2020.

During the presentation of the New National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19, the Head of State thanked the citizenry that went to the polls on Election Day.

"We have had a clean electoral process as we had promised at the beginning of this administration; there are no doubts or questions, and the government has maintained strict neutrality," he expressed.

The top official said that citizen participation proves the willingness to exercise the right to elect leaders and the fulfillment of the obligation to vote.

After reminding reporters that —in the coming months— Peruvians will choose those who will lead the destiny of the country for the next five years, the statesman affirmed that his administration will continue to work thru its last day in office.

At 98.950% of the ballots processed by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Peru Libre candidate Pedro Castillo obtained 19.085% of the votes cast at the national level, followed by Keiko Fujimori (Fuerza Popular) with 13.370%, Rafael Lopez-Aliaga (Renovación Popular) with 11.679%, and Hernando de Soto (Avanza Pais) with 11.596%.

The first two will go on to the second round scheduled for June 6.
