The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday affirmed that the unity of Latin America is essential to think and find solutions to a development model which has proven to be insufficient.

During his participation in the virtual plenary session of the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Head of State indicated that the region's economic progress stagnated and inequalities worsened even before the COVID-19 pandemic had begun.

Therefore, the top official deemed the unity of the Latin American peoples as priority to boost the economy, as well as to craft and implement social policies —particularly in the fields of health, education, and job creation in compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda.

"Thus, we must bet on integration, cooperation and solidarity in Latin America in areas such as food security; universal access to health and education; attraction of investments; fight against terrorism, organized crime, and against corruption," he expressed.

Moreover, the President mentioned the importance of protecting human rights and gender equality, as well as respecting indigenous peoples.

"Our Government is convinced that the integration of Latin America is beyond ideological and political differences. There is much more that unites us than what separates us," he emphasized.

Within this framework, Mr. Castillo highlighted the participation of the region's governments in the economic forum because it strengthens a common agenda and the political willingness to achieve integration.
