The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Monday affirmed that whoever takes office on July 28 will do so after a fair and orderly process without any disturbance that may have changed or affected it.

"This is not only claimed by us and electoral bodies, but all the election observation missions have confirmed that the electoral process has run smoothly, fairly, and transparently," he said.

For this reason, the Head of State reiterated his call for citizens to maintain serenity, calm, and order in this pretty critical time and await the official results of the runoff election.

"The independent electoral bodies will give their verdict once the review of everything in their hands is completed," he said.

Sagasti emphasized that the Transition and Emergency Government has scrupulously respected the independence of electoral bodies and recalled that the country has held fair and unquestionable elections for decades.

"Let us remain calm and accept the results. In the end, the National Elections Board (JNE) —with all its independence and following a process that has already been established and agreed on— shall proclaim the person who will take the reins of the country starting July 28.

Mr. Sagasti noted that the most important legacy of his administration is to demonstrate that governing in a different and transparent manner is possible.

His remarks were made during his visit to Jaen, where he supervised the construction of the new campus at the National University of Jaen.
