The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to finding peaceful solutions to social conflicts that may arise in the country.

Via Twitter, he noted that thanks to dialogue, Chumbivilcas communities in Cusco region have given up their measures of force in the conflict over the mining corridor.

"The 11-day strike in Chumbivilcas was lifted thanks to the dialogue between Prime Minister Guido Bellido and our sisters and brothers from Cusco. Together with the people, our Government renews its commitment to finding peaceful solutions to social conflicts. Let us unite for Peru!" the statesman expressed.

In this sense, the Cabinet chief underlined that —as a result of this dialogue— peasant communities in Las Bambas mining project's impact area gave up the measures of force, and he estimated that their claims may be addressed within 60 days.

Peasant communities went on a strike due to a resolution issued by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), which declared communal roads in populated centers of Chumbivilcas Province as national roads of Cusco region.

The inhabitants protest against the environmental pollution caused by MMG Las Bambas trucks passing through the area every day and warn that they were not consulted about said MTC regulation.
