The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday reported that the Peruvian State has ordered civil and administrative criminal actions to safeguard the country's well-being.

Within this framework, the Head of State pointed out that it also assumes the role of
sanctioning those responsible for the ecological damage due to oil spill on the coastline of Ventanilla district in Lima.

"The ecological damage to our coastline is unacceptable. From the State, criminal, civil and administrative actions have been arranged so as to protect the sovereignty and well-being of the nation," Mr. Castillo stressed.

"The Government assumes the role of sanctioning those responsible for the damage which tragically affects the flora, fauna, and communities that are endangered and deprived of their daily livelihood," he underlined.

In this sense, the Head of State stated that the Executive Branch requires the support of all political representatives and citizens.

"We will take urgent and serious actions that will match the greatness of our history and the magnitude of those events. We will not let our ecosystems and the honor of our people be trampled on with impunity," he concluded.

Oil spill

After meeting with Repsol representatives, Environment Minister Ruben Ramirez pointed out that around 6,000 barrels of oil were spilled.

The oil slick has spread along the coast of Ventanilla, reaching Ancon and Chancay, where a negative impact on marine flora and fauna is registered.
