The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo has affirmed that the vaccination against COVID-19 of boys and girls aged 5 to 11 will be safe, efficient, and orderly —as established in the schedule crafted for this purpose.

"A schedule has already been established so that children's immunization process is safe, efficient, and orderly," Mr. Castillo emphasized.

In this sense, the top official called on parents, regional governors, mayors, and the entire community to join this vaccination process and make progress in the immunization of children, "which is essential for the return to face-to-face classes at schools next March."

"(…) Let's protect our children and teachers, whom we hope will join this campaign because we proposed that more than 90% of teachers would be immunized (against COVID-19) by March this year," he said.

During the ceremony marking the arrival of 996,000 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses, Mr. Castillo indicated "while some want to muzzle the people," the arrival of doses is a sign that children have the right to education and to be healthy.

"Today, we have a challenge: to open schools; as a Government, we will make sure that schools are in better conditions in terms of infrastructure and food; yet the biggest challenge is to have healthy children. I am a teacher convinced that children must be well fed, healthy, and in a healthy environment, so that they can learn better," Mr. Castillo indicated.

"We will not back down in restoring the Peruvian people the rights that we have been fighting for over years," he added.

Moreover, Mr. Castillo stated that the second batch consisting of another 996,000 doses will arrive on January 28 to immunize 548,000 children under 10 years of age.

448,000 doses for children aged 8 to 9 will arrive every week in February, March, and April.
