Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday welcomed the decision recently made by Congress to grant a vote of confidence to the Cabinet, which is led by Prime Minister Walter Martos.

The top official stressed that Congress members listened carefully to Martos, who presented the Government’s general policy. For their part, the Cabinet chief and State ministers did the same when lawmakers expressed their views.

"The outcome of this dialogue is the investiture vote; it is important that the Executive and the Legislature Branches are clear that the only way to move forward in this difficult time is by working together," he expressed.

The statesman specified that both Branches of Government, respecting the separation and independence of powers, have put the interests of the country first with the aim of joining efforts for the sake of all citizens
—a fact that strengthens democracy.

The President also specified that the work among the central, regional and local governments, as well as with Congress members, will be strengthened because that is the only way to reach out to every corner of the country and continue acting with a sense of urgency to protect the lives, health and integrity of Peruvians.

Remarks were made in a televised address to the nation from the Government Palace in Lima. President Vizcarra was joined by State ministers on the occasion.
