The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Tuesday announced the distribution of coronavirus vaccines to all Peruvian regions for the immunization of adults aged above 80 —based on a vaccination plan agreed upon with regional governors.

"The process has been agreed upon by the Ministry of Health and governors, according to the new vaccination plan relying on a territorial approach," he expressed in Pucallpa, where he delivered a batch of
21,990 AstraZeneca vaccine doses.

The Head of State assured that immunization with Pfizer doses will continue in the regions relying on special cold chains, while the rest of regions —with normal cold conditions (between 2 and 8 Celsius degrees)— will receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.

"We have received 276,000 doses of AstraZeneca, which are distributed to regions. It starts today, tomorrow, and the day after until it reaches the whole country," he indicated.

The top official specified that Peru is scheduled to receive one million doses of the aforementioned vaccine, 500,000 of which will arrive in a few weeks and the rest weeks later.

As larger batches of vaccines are received, the rest of the population over 18 years of age will also be vaccinated.

Likewise, the President affirmed that 6,500 elders aged above 80 will be immunized with the doses delivered this morning.

Mr. Sagasti also said that the government is following in detail the epidemiological indicators to take specific measures to control the pandemic at the provincial level, but it is not considering returning to total confinement.
