Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez affirmed that
general elections have already been called, when asked about Somos Peru political party's request to postpone them claiming an increase in COVID-19 infections.
Likewise, the Cabinet chief stated that support of police and the armed forces will be available in order to ensure safety during the voting process.
In this sense, Bermudez indicated that a sanitary protocol is currently being developed for the electoral campaign, after lamenting that some candidates have been infected with COVID-19.
Furthermore, she deemed as important to remind the Peruvian population of the safety measures, such as the use of face masks, constant hand washing, and physical distancing.
“We are a Transition and Emergency Government that has the mission of transferring the government management,” she concluded.
His term in office is set to end on July 28, 2021.
