Peru's PM: Economic growth must translate into progress and opportunities for all

Peruvian Prime Minister Walter Martos underscored that economic growth must translate into progress and opportunities for all.

Referring to social reactivation and development, the Cabinet chief noted that the measures for economic and productive recovery —implemented by the Government— will enable Peru to restart growth, create jobs, and prevent poverty from growing.

"However, these measures must be accompanied by the social recovery of the country. Our strategy to tackle the crisis cannot be only economic but also social, and should aim to alleviate the most vulnerable sectors, as they are the ones that suffer the most from the scourge of this dreaded disease," he expressed.

Therefore, the government official stressed the need for joint efforts in order to overcome the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We will find a way out of this situation together. Economic growth should never turn its back on people again; on the contrary, it must translate into progress and opportunities for all," he said.

As is known, Congress on Tuesday night granted its confidence to the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Walter Martos. It received 115 votes in favor, 5 against and 4 abstentions.
