He has been granted this prize for being the most-veteran top scorer in Bundesliga history, and the first foreign player with more than 400 matches in the aforementioned tournament, as well as for winning six German championships and victories at the
DFB Cup.
"As a top scorer, Claudio Pizarro was and is still successful as is usual with strikers. At the same time, he was and is a total team player, a professional who is a good piece for each football team, each club and the whole Bundesliga, not only in sporting terms," said Thomas Schaaf, who was his first coach in Germany and who was also present at the ceremony.
Other German football celebrities attended the DFL award ceremony such as: Otto Rehhagel, Lothar Matthäus, and Wolfgang Overath.
