The
volume of non-traditional exports grew 15.7% in August 2018 compared to the same month a year earlier, thus marking 22 months of continuous growth, National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed Thursday.
According to INEI's Technical Report on Evolution of Exports and Imports, this month's highlight was the farming sector, which posted a 17.8% rise driven by higher sales of avocados (76.1%),
blueberries (48.6%), as well as powdered, mashed or chunked paprika (34.6%).
Likewise, the
fishery sector kept a favorable outcome for the fifth month in a row, explained by greater transactions of squid,
giant squid, and cuttlefish (83.6%), frozen prawns (82.5%), as well as fresh and frozen trout fillet (114.6%).
On the other hand, the surge in the chemical sector (15.1%) was due to increased shipments of zinc oxide (78.8%), plates of propylene polymers (22.7%), as well as polyethylene terephthalate plates, sheets, film, foil, and strip (72.7%).
Additionally, greater exports of cotton t-shirts (27.9%), cotton nightclothes and pajamas (28.7%), as well as woolen yarn for retail sale (31.9%) increased shipments in the textile sector by 10.3%.
Total export volume up 0.7%
In the analyzed month, Peru's total export volume expanded 0.7% over the similar month last year.
The top export destinations were China (32.9%), the United States (17.0%), South Korea (6.3%), and Brazil (4.3%).
