Peru's Kimberly Garcia sets new world record in race walk

Peruvian athlete Kimberly Garcia set a new world record in race walk after claiming victory in the 35km event at the Dudinska 50 World Athletics Racewalking Tour 2023 held in Slovakia on Saturday.

The Peruvian sportswoman —a two-time world champion— clocked a time of 2hr 37min and 44sec, setting a new record in said distance.

The Dudinska 50 race is the first World Athletics Race Walking Tour Gold meeting of the year.

In 2022, Kimberly Garcia became a two-time race walk champion, in the distances of 20 and 35 kilometers.

Thanks to this new victory, the 29-year-old Peruvian has positioned herself as one of the favorite athletes for race walk competitions at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
