Health Minister Oscar Ugarte has affirmed that the Government is prepared to speed up the vaccination process against COVID-19 thanks to the dose batches landing in Peru more frequently.

"We are prepared (...) at the vaccination centers, we used to rely on 150 vaccination brigades and then went to 300; now, we are able to double (the figure) again to 600 and 700 in accordance with the needs; thus, we do have the capacity to continue immunizing (senior citizens) not only in Lima but also in the regions," he indicated.

"The process has not only been carried out by the Ministry of Health, but also through the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud), the health services of the Armed Forces and Police, as well as the private sector. This gives us a very large capacity," he said.

Concerning the support of U.S. President Joe Biden to suspend patent protections for COVID-19 vaccines, the minister highlighted this stance saying that this measure will allow developing countries to rely on an important advantage to access these doses.

Remarks were made on Thursday night.
