Peru wins five medals at Uganda Para-Badminton International

Peru claimed five medals (2 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze) at the 2019 Uganda Para-Badminton International. The Inca country's recipients are Pilar Jauregui (WH 2), Jesus Salva (SS 6), and Pedro Pablo de Vinatea (SL 3).

The Peruvian athletes headed to Kampala (Uganda) seeking qualifying points for Tokyo 2020.

Jauregui reached the top of the podium twice. She defeated Turkish Emine Seckin 2-0 (21-19; 21-19) in women's singles.

In women's doubles, she was partnered with Henriett Koosz (Austria) and, coming from behind, they defeated German Valeska Knoblauch and Elke Rongen 2-1 (18-21; 21-15; 21-17).

For his part, Jesus Salva earned two medals. He won silver with Anthony Ojwang (Kenia) in men's doubles and took bronze after being beaten by India's Nagar Krishna in singles.

Finally, Pedro Pablo de Vinatea grabbed bronze in men's doubles. The Peruvian teamed up with Tim Haller (Germany). They beat the local duo of Hassan Mubiru and Bashir Mutyaba 2-0 (21-5; 21-4) in the quarterfinals. Once in the semifinals, they battled against French Guillaume Gailly and Mathieu Thomas, but fell 2-0 (21-16; 21-10).
