Peru: Traditional exports up 50.5% in Jan-Apr this year

16:43 | Lima, Jun. 7.

Peruvian traditional exports amounted to US$12.857 million in the first four-month period of 2021, up 50.5% compared to the same period last year, due to an increase in prices, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported on Monday.

Thus, traditional exports expanded year-on-year for the eighth consecutive month.

Sales of traditional products totaled US$3.191 billion in April, up 147% and 16% from the same month in 2020 and 2019, respectively, mainly due to higher prices and volumes of mining products.

In the fourth month of 2021, fishing and mining exports remained positive compared to the previous month. Fishing sales grew 395%, followed by mining exports, which saw an increase of 143%.

On the other hand, export prices of traditional exports increased 49% in annual terms in April, which was explained by higher prices of metals, as well as crude oil and derivatives.

Between January and April this year, traditional sector prices grew 37% compared to the same period a year before.
