4.4 million foreign tourists will visit Peru in 2018, thus generating US$5 billion in revenue, the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) projected Wednesday.
"We expect to receive 4.4 million
foreign visitors this year, being the United States the main market, which accounts for about 16% of (the total) international arrivals," PromPeru's Tourism Department Director Marisol Acosta told Andina news agency.
According to
Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry's (Mincetur) official figures, 3,455,709
vacationers arrived in the Inca country in 2015.
Plus, Peru welcomed 3,744,461 and 4,032,339 tourists in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
Acosta also pointed out there are currently 25 countries from where
foreign visitors come, in 15 of which PromPeru carries out its main promotion activities.
"We also rely on emerging and
potential markets where we are working with the purpose of reducing the risk of fewer visits and ensuring a steady growth in arrivals," the official noted.
On the other hand, the PromPeru representative remarked
Chinese tourist arrivals in the Andean nation expanded nearly 22% last year.
Similarly, the number of South Korean visitors in
Peru increased by 30%.
