Peruvians by birth who renounced their citizenship may get it back voluntarily and by showing good behavior, according to the provisions of a law published on Wednesday in the official gazette El Peruano.

This regulation amends article 8 of the Law on Nationality (Law No. 26574) and has been enacted by the Congress of the Republic after it insisted on its approval.

The text indicates that Peruvians by birth who expressly renounced their Peruvian citizenship will have the right to regain it as long as they declare their will to do so through a written request.

The document shall be submitted to the competent authority in Peruvian territory or to diplomatic missions abroad.

Additionally, the applicant of such request must "have good behavior and moral solvency," as stipulated in Law No. 31295, which was published today.
