Peru reaffirms need for peaceful solution to Venezuelan crisis

The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday reaffirmed the need for a peaceful solution to the crisis generated in Venezuela.

"A political problem —caused by the breakdown of the rule of law and the constitutional order— requires a political solution," it posted on Twitter.

According to the ministry, the protection of human dignity and human rights of the Venezuelan people is a matter of deep interest that needs to be addressed.

"In this sense, Peru has reiterated its full willingness to support the efforts of the Venezuelan people to resolve the crisis," said the leading diplomatic institution in Peru.

Moreover, it emphasized the importance of the request —submitted by Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, and Peru to the International Criminal Court (ICC)— asking it to investigate the crimes against humanity that would have taken place in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela since February 2014.

"Added to this request is the Report of the Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela —established by the United Nations Human Rights Council— as complementary information for the investigation," it stated.

Remarks were made within the framework of an event held by the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center.
