Peru: Prosecutor requests seizure of ex-President Garcia's phone

14:11 | Lima, Jun. 21.

Lava Jato Case Special Prosecutor Jose Domingo Perez has addressed the Judicial Branch to request the confiscation of ex-President Alan Garcia's mobile phone.

According to El Comercio newspaper, the petition was submitted to the Second Preparatory Investigation Court on June 19.

In this sense, Perez indicated the mobile phone might contribute to complementing and registering information needed for the Lima Metro case, which is investigated over the alleged bribes paid to Garcia by the Brazilian company Odebrecht.

Even though the criminal proceeding against Garcia was annulled due to his death, the investigation continues on the other people involved in the same case. Thus, the Prosecutor's Office considers it is necessary to secure all evidence.

El Comercio reported that Garcia's son —Alan Garcia Nores— has also requested the return of his father's phone.

It should be noted the device has been under the possession of Miraflores' Second Provincial Criminal Prosecutor's Office since April 17, date on which Garcia shot himself after receiving an arrest order linked to the Odebrecht case.
