Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra's banner to
during his first year in office has paid off, Spanish newspaper El Pais affirmed.
According to the
gazette, the government has capitalized on the population's
irritation with this scourge in order to adopt the anticorruption banner.
Political Scientist Jorge Aragon noted the Head of State's capacity of political reaction, as well as taking away Congress' prominence and the stance represented by opposition party Fuerza Popular.
Likewise, Sociologist Maritza Paredes indicated the top official's first year was characterized for trying to give an answer to the Inca country's citizens concerning sensitive problems such as
corruption.
Furthermore, Paredes stated that —although President Vizcarra has attempted to
address femicides and
gender equality— he has not done the same with problems related to indigenous peoples.
Moreover, the Spanish newspaper highlighted the Head of State's proposal for a
referendum on four constitutional reforms: lawmakers' reelection,
bicameral legislature, political parties' private financing, and a reform of the National Council of the Magistracy (CNM) —renamed National Justice Board.
El Pais also mentioned there are problems pending with Amazon communities, as well as with the Highland's which need to be taken care of.
