The debates among presidential candidates will take place on March 28 and April 4, in order to inform Peruvian voters about their proposals, National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Jorge Luis Salas affirmed on Saturday.

In this sense, the electoral authority indicated that arranging, organizing, and conducting these discussions is a matter of interest for the board.

"These will be held on the last Sunday of March and the first Sunday of April, in two parts, since it seems like there will be several candidates for the Presidency (…)," he told RPP radio and TV station.

The official informed that it will be reasonable to draw the participants' names in order to decide to which group each of them will belong.

In the case of candidates running for Congress, the debates will take place in their respective regions, and the schedule runs from March 1 to 31.

"In that case, each local (electoral) organization will lead those discussions," the JNE chairman said.

Furthermore, Salas affirmed that March will be an "intense" month due to the organization and hosting of these debates, which aim to inform the population about the participants' ideas and plans.
