Peru President: We will reject corruption through the referendum

13:21 | Cusco (Cusco region), Dec. 7.

President Martin Vizcarra on Friday affirmed the December 9 referendum will enable Peruvian citizens to express their rejection of corruption, and urged them to massively go to the polls, as well as vote consciously.

"And we will show it on December 9 by massively participating in the referendum, in which Peruvians will communicate what we want for Peru," he said.

Earlier, the top official pointed out the public vote will also enable the construction of institutionalism and civic responsibility, as well as the strengthening of democracy.

Furthermore, he stated the nation needs solid institutions in order to continue growing.

"I urge the population to build civic responsibility and strengthen democracy through institutions. With your conscious vote (…) all Peruvians in the country will start this change Peru needs (…)," President Vizcarra added.

Moreover, the statesman committed himself to start implementing on Monday —a day after the referendum— the results in order to make the population's will a reality.

Remarks were made in Peru's southern Cusco region.
