Peru President: "We are bringing the Government to the regions"

17:40 | Abancay (Apurimac region), Aug. 10.

President Martin Vizcarra on Friday affirmed he is bringing the Government to the regions, noting his journeys across the country since he took office.

His remarks were made during a working visit to Abancay City in South-Andean Apurimac region.

According to the Head of State, he is changing the previous administrations' capital-centered way of governing.

Based on his experience as regional governor, Vizcarra assured he is aware of how cumbersome it is to process resources to execute projects in the country's inland regions.

Such a situation, he explained, led to a change in the way of governing.

"With this in mind, we are bringing the Government to the regions (…). We are changing the country's governance system," the statesman said while inspecting works at a wastewater treatment plant in Abancay.

According to Vizcarra, he has held decentralized meetings with several regional authorities under his administration so far to identify the population's needs first-hand and solve priority issues
