The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo has stated that, due to the issues on the country's domestic agenda and the current political situation, he decided not to attend the Annual Assembly of the World Economic Forum in the city of Davos, Switzerland, from May 21 to 27.

"My administration is committed to safeguarding, defending the interests of Peruvians, especially the most vulnerable ones; we must face urgent issues emerging from the current social situation, which we will try to solve immediately," Mr. Castillo expressed.

"This situation obliges me to stay in the country to address the problems that have arisen," he emphasized.

The Head of State added that "political confrontation has intensified over recent days, amid censorship, interpellations, and possible strikes."

"I will make the best decisions to favor tranquility and safety in Peru whenever the circumstances may so require," he noted.

In this sense, the top official regretted not attending the international meeting.

Nonetheless, he affirmed —that considering the magnitude and its impact on the regional and global sphere, as well as the strengthening of bilateral relations— a few days ago, he stipulated that First Vice-President of the Republic Dina Boluarte would attend the event on his behalf.

Mrs. Boluarte, who also serves as Development and Social Inclusion Minister, will lead the official delegation made up of Ministers Cesar Landa (Foreign Affairs) and Oscar Graham (Economy and Finance).

"I predict success for the efforts of this team, and I am sure that they will lift the name of Peru high; let's hope for good news upon their return," he underlined.

As is known, via Supreme Resolution No. 142-2022-PCM, the Government authorized the trip of First Vice-President Dina Boluarte to the Swiss Confederation.
