Peru President leads Council of State session

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra currently leads the fifth session of the Council of State in search of consensus to strengthen the reforms that citizens and the country need.

Last Wednesday, the Head of State announced that he had convened a Council of State meeting "with the best will to find a way out together."

All its members confirmed their attendance, except for Constitutional Court (TC) Chairwoman Marianella Ledesma, who apologized for not attending because the issue that would be addressed compromises her powers, adding that she will have to give her opinion on the matter at the institutional level in the future.

Yesterday, President Vizcarra said that constitutional amendments on parliamentary immunity and prerogatives of the President of the Republic, State ministers, TC magistrates, and the Ombudsman —which were recently approved by Congress— are extremely delicate and should be amended.
