President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday affirmed one of his administration's goals towards the bicentennial is to significantly reduce —through ongoing projects— the number of people without water access.
“We cannot do this alone, we need (the support of) regional and local governments, whom we have transferred funds,” the Head of State expressed.
The leader indicated he will remain vigilant to ensure these goals are achieved before the bicentennial (2021).
“Water is essential for development. Without water, there is nothing we can do, there is no life, subsistence food is impossible to get, and there is no industry (…),” the top official said.
As is known, citizens lacking piped potable water have to pay high prices to acquire this resource, which sometimes is of poor quality.
Although Peru is among the top ten countries in the world with the most water, it struggles with its management and supply since water basins were not taken into account when establishing political boundaries.
“The water issue is not easy. It involves technology, economic resources, and political solutions (…), he affirmed.
