Peru: President holds talks with heads of JNE, RENIEC and ONPE about election call

President Dina Boluarte met with the heads of the National Elections Board (JNE), Roberto Burneo; the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Piero Corvetto; and the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC), Carmen Velarde, to address the call for the 2026 general elections.

During the working meeting, the Head of State reaffirmed her commitment to democratic institutions and respect for the Constitution.

Also participating in the event were the Cabinet Chief Gustavo Adrianzen, and Ministers Eduardo Arana (Justice-Human Rights), Jose Salardi (Economy-Finance), and Walter Astudillo (Defense).

The meeting reflects a coordinated effort to ensure an orderly and reliable electoral process, the Presidential Office stated via social media on Wednesday evening.

According to the Constitution, it is the responsibility of the President of the Republic to call for the 2026 general elections.

April 12, 2025, is the deadline for the official call for the elections, based on the draft schedule proposed by the JNE for the 2026 electoral process.

The President of the Republic, Vice-Presidents, Senators, Deputies, and Andean Parliament members will be elected in the 2026 general elections.
