Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday reaffirmed his commitment to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), stressing that one of his administration's central objectives is to strengthen this sector, so that its members grow and develop.

In this sense, the Head of State indicated that SMEs are the main sources of job generation and poverty alleviation, noting they are an example of effort, inclusion, and perseverance.

"We must strengthen them in order to build a more just, inclusive, and prosperous country," he expressed.

Likewise, the top official pointed out that out of the 2.4 million companies that exist in the Inca nation, 89% are micro- and small-sized enterprises, which create jobs for nearly 8.5 million people, almost half the total employment in Peru

"My administration is firmly committed to strengthening the capabilities of SMEs with tools that enable a greater sustainability of the entrepreneurial sector, which is key to development," the statesman added.

Remarks were made while participating in the inauguration ceremony of the 15th ExpoPyme in Lima.

The event is an initiative aimed at contributing to the training of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises in Peru.
