09:53 | Lima, Dec. 5.

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Sunday morning participated in the delivery of 38 vehicles for emergency care to the General Corps of Volunteer Firefighters of Peru (CGBVP), within the framework of the 161st anniversary of the creation of such institution.

The ceremony took place at the Honor Courtyard of the Government Palace in Lima.

The event also saw the presence of Interior Minister Avellino Guillen, Commander General of Peru's Volunteer Firefighters Luis Antonio Ponce La Jara, and 200 CGBVP officers.

During the ceremony, volunteer firefighters were recognized for their service, dedication, and discipline in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Out of the 38 vehicles delivered, 18 are tanker trucks and 20 are specialized auxiliary vehicles, which strengthen the work and increase the response capabilities of Peru's volunteer firefighters in the event of any emergency.

At present, the CGBVP has 1,300 emergency vehicles nationwide, including ambulances, fire trucks, rescue vehicles, tanks, as well as telescopic and auxiliary ladders.

So far this year, they have helped respond to more than 57,000 emergencies throughout the country, including fires, rescues, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, forest fires, gas leaks, among others.
