The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Thursday brought 17,550 COVID-19 vaccine doses to Peru's southern Cusco region, where he arrived to supervise the immunization of senior citizens.

These doses are added to the 14,040 already sent to the region, which lead to a total of 31,590 doses —out of the 145,000 allocated to Cusco for the immunization of older adults.

"The governors of the ANGR (National Assembly of Regional Governors) have talked and reached agreements with the Ministry of Health to plan the orderly the delivery of vaccines to every region," he expressed.

"This way, we are protecting the most vulnerable (citizens) since older adults account for 70% of deaths," he indicated.

Moreover, the statesman requested senior citizens, who say they do not want to get vaccinated —as also happens in other parts of the world— to clear up their doubts and get vaccinated to protect themselves and those around them.

Mr. Sagasti also asked governors, mayors, community organizations, and private companies to collaborate with the transfer of elders —who reside in remote areas— to nearby vaccination centers, so that no older adult is left behind.
