The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday called for the unity of Peruvians in order to face common enemies such as the coronavirus pandemic, anemia, centralism, and poverty.

During his speech at the closing of the 15th GORE-Executive meeting, the Head of State indicated that personal or partisan interests should be left behind to achieve this purpose.

"Let's make the effort to stand united, leaving personal and political attitudes, of any interest group, behind because we have common enemies," he expressed.

The top official indicated that —following the conclusion of the meeting between regional authorities and Executive Branch representatives— "it is necessary to put what was agreed into practice."

"Enough of meetings, enough of locking us up; let's move to action," he expressed.

Decentralization

President Castillo said he will request a report from the Decentralization Secretariat of the Council of Ministers in order to be clear about what work is being carried out in this sphere.

"I am totally willing to carry out the true decentralization in the country," he pointed out.

"Let it be understood in each jurisdiction that there is a governor, mayor, and ministers focused on their people, on allocating the budget to serve children, mothers, farmers, and workers," he added.

Concerning the rainforest city —which hosted the latest GORE-Executive meeting— he said "the integration of Iquitos to the national capital must be urgently scheduled," as well as that of other localities so as to ensure that in all these areas citizens have equal rights and opportunities.

Mr. Castillo also made a request for regional authorities and mayors to establish a firm fight against corruption.

"We cannot give in to those who take money out of town to put it in their pockets," he emphasized.

Moreover, the President remarked that on his recent trip to Mexico and the United States, he spoke with entrepreneurs who aim to invest in Lima and other regions, thus putting an end to the problem of inequality.

"They have the willingness to visit us," he underlined.
