Peru President calls for responsibility to prevent COVID-19 second waves

19:04 | Lima, Jun. 30.

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday requested the population to act responsibly during the resumption of various economic activities starting July 1 in order to prevent a fresh outbreak of COVID-19 in Peru.

The Head of State specified that home is the safest place to be, but if people must go outside —for strictly necessary reasons— he recommended wearing face masks, maintaining social distance, and continuing with hygiene habits such as hand-washing.

Reflections

After recalling the reflections that were made at the beginning of the quarantine —in Mid-March— on the individualism that used to prevail in the population and the deterioration of the planet, President Vizcarra said citizens should consider that situation during the resumption of economic activities.

It is important, he asserted, "to apply the lessons that nature is giving us and that life itself is giving us. We have to apply them."

"That is why we say we are going to start a new coexistence, in which respect for others prevails. We have to apply this now, and by applying that we avoid a fresh outbreak," he remarked.

Today, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Tuesday marks the 107th day of mandatory social isolation in Peru.
