Peru President calls for responsibility as shopping centers get ready to reopen

16:48 | Lima, Jun. 19.

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Friday called on citizens to be responsible and adopt safety measures, with a view to resuming commercial activities in shopping centers and conglomerates from June 22.

Within this framework, the Head of State specified that this measure is taken in response to the totally justified demand from a part of the population,
which required the resumption of economic activities.

The top official explained that there will be supervision by municipalities, as well as the Ministries of Health and Labor. Yet the most important supervision will be conducted by the people themselves, instead of "expecting an authority to enforce the basic rules against the pandemic."

"We fight the virus until the end, all of us with face masks, all of us with properly-worn face masks, that means covering our nose and mouth. We know that it is uncomfortable sometimes, but like everything in life, we will get used to it," he added.

In this sense, the statesman affirmed that the Government is coordinating with the Health Ministry, law enforcement agencies, and security service companies to channel the resumption of activities, which will be carried out "complying with the minimum conditions that we must all meet at this stage of the pandemic."
