The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte leads a new session of the Council of Ministers, chaired by Prime Minister Alberto Otarola.

The event takes place at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

Culture Minister Leslie Urteaga on Monday said that, during the meeting, the Ministerial Cabinet will assess bills in response to the social crisis that the country is facing.

On Sunday, the Head of State announced that the Executive Branch would introduce two legislative initiatives —as a matter of urgency— if Congress did not reach a consensus to bring general elections forward to 2023

The first initiative proposes debating a constitutional reform so that general elections are inevitably held this year.

The second bill proposes that the next elected Parliament should entrust the Constitution Commission with the total reform of the 1993 Political Constitution.
