Peru President: Emergency must bring out our great values

12:37 | Lima, Apr. 3.

President Martin Vizcarra on Friday afternoon said that the national emergency —as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19)— should bring out the great values that Peruvians have such as solidarity, thus shaping a future of development that involves everyone.

"This difficult stage should bring out the best that we have in us; it is the moment to show ourselves as we are. It must bring out the great values that society expects from all of us," he expressed.

As the Head of State remarked, if those values come out and prevail, the country will be much better prepared to overcome this disease.

"The main value we need from society is solidarity, so that we all give our best effort to serve those who need it," he underlined.

After referring that solidarity is a value that must remain in place permanently, the top official mentioned that the Executive Branch is making every effort to end the problem.

The statesman said that —although it is a difficult time— the Government is clear about where it is heading.

"We know where we are going, and we know what we are going to achieve with each of the decisions we are making," Mr. Vizcarra affirmed.

The President also stressed that Peruvians will emerge stronger once the emergency has come to an end.

"With everyone's effort, little by little will we be able to defeat the disease," he concluded.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Friday marks the nineteenth day of mandatory social isolation.
