Peru: PM declares state of emergency in 164 districts due to heavy rains

Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen on Wednesday announced that the Council of Ministers approved a supreme decree declaring 164 districts in 21 Peruvian regions in state of emergency due to heavy rains.

The high-ranking official indicated that it is the third state of emergency declared for the same reason.

Adrianzen added that approximately 650 districts have been declared in state of emergency for this purpose.

Likewise, he announced that a supreme decree has been approved extending the state of emergency in Zarumilla province, Tumbes region, due to the incidence of illegal activities such as human trafficking, illegal mining, and others.

"Then, two supreme resolutions have been approved, designating one of our ambassadors to Colombia and also appointing our ambassador based in Panama as concurrently accredited to the Bahamas," Adrianzen said.

Moreover, the Cabinet chief reported that a series of active and passive extradition resolutions were approved during the latest Council of Ministers session.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister highlighted the Government's response to the tragedy at Real Plaza Trujillo shopping center, where six people lost their lives last weekend.

The Cabinet chief said Housing Minister Durich Whittembury provided support and assistance in response to the needs arising from these events.

Adrianzen added that condolences were also expressed from the outset to the victims' families.
