The Government of Peru has authorized the transfer of S/106 million (about US$29.3 million) to the
Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE).
This money transfer will serve to finance the leasing, installation, and start-up of temporary care and isolation centers belonging to the
Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) in Lima and regions.
The regulation sets out extraordinary measures to strengthen the health response within the framework of the state of emergency decreed to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, it exceptionally authorizes EsSalud to operate the temporary care and isolation centers, as well as health facilities in Lima, Piura, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Cajamarca, Huanuco, Apurimac, Tacna, Moquegua, Ancash, Puno, Cusco, and Arequipa.
On the other hand, EsSalud is authorized to enter into contracts for the leasing, installation, and start-up of infrastructure facilities in order to set up temporary hospitalization beds and temporary critical care beds.
Additionally, EsSalud is authorized to acquire support medical services and similar temporary services; purchase medicines, supplies, and medical devices; and pay public services such as cleaning, security, as well as general and intermediate services.
