Peru: Over 15,000 tourists have visited Colca Valley so far this year

16:20 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Mar. 31.

More than 15,501 tourists —both domestic and foreign— have visited Colca Valley so far this year, with March recording the largest number of visitors, the Autonomous Authority of Colca (Autocolca) reported on Wednesday.

The place attracted 181 foreign, 13,312 domestic, and 2,008 local visitors in the first three-month period of the year.

Even though the number of tourists is lower than before the pandemic, the figures are encouraging for the tourism industry in the area, which has been seriously affected by the restrictions imposed to fight the pandemic affecting the entire world.

In March, following the lifting of the extreme alert, imposed in Caylloma Province by the Government, Autocolca prepared a special tour package of one ticket for two people.

The special offer was valid from March 1-4 and the measure was extended until the end of the month, in order to reactivate the economy in Colca Valley.

Thus, those interested in spending the long weekend in Colca Valley can reach the place and ask for the two-for-one special on tickets.

In view of the positive results in recent weeks, Autocolca has decided to extend this special offer until April, so tourists are expected to come after the lifting of Holy Week restrictions, which will be in force nationwide from April 1 to 4.
