National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) Chief Piero Corvetto has affirmed that it is impossible for fraud to occur during the general elections on April 11, since political parties have established diverse controls in order to prevent that from happening.

"Political parties are present at all stages," he told TV Peru.

In this sense, Corvetto mentioned that the electoral roll is overseen by the National Elections Board (JNE) and that polling station members are chosen through a draw.

Likewise, the electoral records are checked and signed by officials from each political party.

These documents are then sent to a computing center and the scanned images are provided to the parties.

Results

Furthermore, the ONPE chief asked the population to be aware of the fact that the results will take some time, due to the voting conditions.

Corvetto indicated that —in the last parliamentary election (January 2020)— 3,500 electoral records were checked and then sent to special electoral committees. Lastly, these were confirmed by the JNE.

Concerning the preliminary results, he said that ONPE will release them on Sunday at 11:30 p.m. (local time) and will update the information every 30 minutes.
