Peru, Odebrecht sign collaboration agreement in search of truth over corruption case

Peru's Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group on Friday signed the long-awaited collaboration agreement with Odebrecht representatives and former employees in Brazil.

This deal is intended to procure evidence and testimonies for the investigation of corruption cases in the Andean nation.

Prosecutor Rafael Vela indicated this has been a successful negotiation and will provide valuable information in the quest to discover the truth.

At a press conference, Vela remarked that no restriction would be placed upon the entire information required by Peruvian justice.

According to Lava Jato case's Ad Hoc State Attorney Jorge Ramirez, Odebrecht will pay S/610 million (around US$182 million) —plus interests that may arise— in civil reparations to the Peruvian State over a period of 15 years as part of this agreement.

Another key aspect of the negotiation is that Odebrecht will have to pay —this year— all taxes owed so far in order to participate in future public bids.

The collaboration agreement with the Brazilian construction giant was inked at the Peruvian Consulate in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The event also featured Prosecutor Jose Domingo Perez and representatives of the Lava Jato case's Ad Hoc State Attorney's Office led by Jorge Ramirez.
