Peru: Non-traditional exports up 6.4% in December 2020

The Central Reserve Bank (BCR) on Sunday noted that Peru's non-traditional exports amounted to US$1.454 billion in December 2020, up 6.4% compared to the same month a year earlier.

According to the issuing entity, this growth was explained by higher export volumes (9.5%), mainly of farming, fishery, chemical, as well as textile products.

In December 2020, Peru saw an increase from the same month a year before in sales of fresh grapes (25.7%), zinc products (7.7%), precious metal jewelry (419%), calcium phosphates (12.5%), fresh onions (39.3%), canned giant squid (28.7%) and canned artichokes (10%), among other products.

A stated in its latest Weekly Economic Report, exports in December 2020 totaled US$4.78 billion, which represents an increase of 3.7% compared to December 2019. 

In this period, traditional exports grew 2.4% and amounted to US$3.31 billion, while non-traditional exports, which grew 6.4% favored mostly by higher volumes (up 9.5%), amounted to US$1.45 billion.
