Peru: Non-primary manufacturing rises above pre-pandemic levels

19:02 | Lima, Jun. 20.

Peru's non-primary manufacturing grew 175.2% in April 2021 compared to the same month in 2020, and 3.2% compared to April 2019, above pre-pandemic levels, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported on Sunday.

This increase was "mainly due to greater production of investment-oriented and mass consumer goods," it stated.

The issuing entity explained that the production of investment-oriented goods experienced an increase given to the cessation of operations in these sectors, due to the pandemic last year.

"Similarly, the rise in the production of consumer goods was explained by the revival of sectors that operated partially or stopped operating in April 2020, due to movement restrictions brought on by the health crisis," the BCR added.

On the other hand, the bank reported that —in seasonally adjusted terms— non-primary manufacturing increased 2.2% in April compared to the previous month, showing values similar to those registered in January 2020.
