The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo administered the oath of office to Mariano Gonzalez Fernandez, who has become the new Minister of Interior of Peru.

The newly sworn-in minister graduated from the Law School of the National University of San Agustin (UNSA) located in Arequipa.

He served as Andean parliamentarian for the 2016-2020 period and as Minister of Defense in 2016 under Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's administration.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday evening at the Government Palace in Lima.

Thus, Gonzalez Fernandez replaces Dimitri Senmache in the post.

As is known, Dimitri Senmache had been sworn in as Interior Minister on May 22, 2022, but Parliament approved a censure motion against him last Thursday, June 30.

The initiative was approved with 78 votes in favor, 29 against, and 8 abstentions.
