A total of 2,399 vulnerable people living in Paucarbamba district of Churcampa Province (Huancavelica region) received medical assistance to prevent and control COVID-19, in case of symptoms and suspected infection, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported on Tuesday.

Minsa's General Directorate for Disaster Risk Management and National Defense in Health (Digerd) stated that the medical assistance was provided in coordination with the Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces, the Peruvian Army, and the Social Health Insurance System (EsSalud) in order to counter the increase of confirmed COVID-19 cases and treat the non-COVID-19 patients.

According to Minsa, the beneficiaries were examined in different specialties: general medicine, internal medicine, urology, pulmonology, obstetrics, laboratory, gynecology, oncology, otorhinolaryngology, dentistry, and pediatrics.

Additionally, 972 COVID-19 tests were administered, and 432 drug kits were delivered, so as to support people in their recovery from COVID-19.

The purpose of this joint work was to assess the health status of the vulnerable population and thus reduce the impact of the pandemic in said area.

The General Directorate of Health Personnel (Digep) and the National Center for Supply of Strategic Health Resources (Cenares) transported the health professionals and delivered the medicines to the beneficiary population from September 29 to October 1.
