The Peruvian Navy, the National Police of Peru, and the Customs Office have seized 197.8 kg of narcotics wrapped in brick-like packages found in 7 suitcases inside a vessel that arrived at Callao Port, the naval institution reported on Thursday.

The seizure took place at dawn on January 13, following the inspection of CMA CGM Arkansas, a vessel that sails under the flag of Malta.

The first 3 suitcases —which contained 120 packages— were found in the above-mentioned ship, while the other 4 were floating in the sea. The latter ones contained 61 brick-shaped packages.

According to the Peruvian Navy, personnel from the Callao Port Master's Office informed the Public Ministry of the intervention immediately after it was completed, for the corresponding purposes.

The National Maritime Authority will continue its commitment to suppressing illegal activities, ensuring the safety of human life at sea, as well as protecting the aquatic environment and its natural resources.
